I was watching the excellent Donnie Darko and had an eighties flashback—in a good way—and was reminded of some songs that I appreciate even more now than then. In particular is Mad World by Tears for Fears.

The Gary Jules version of Mad World pops up in TV shows at poignant, weighty moments as does Hallelujah (either the somber John Cale version or the whiny Jeff Buckley version)
The Church have revisited Under the Milky Way in acoustic form on El Momento Descuidado, and there are a few EATB live CDs that may or may not contain The Killing Moon. Bring on the Dancing Horses is excellent as well.

T- I didn't know that Cale did a version of Hallelujah. Must be the most mournful yet. If it's not Cohen, then it's K.D. Lang for me. Beautiful reading. Thanks for the tip on The Church. Random thought: The Church co-existed with another band called The Lords of the New Church. Ends of the spectrum. Loved them both. Also- you know too much.
