At the ranch





I've returned from ringing in the New Year with the land barons.

Top shelf champagne. All sorts of great snacks ... caviar on blini, spinach empanadas, fresh salmon, grilled steaks [delicious but slightly unnerving since we are on a - gulp - ranch] and brunch- a frittata with goat cheese. Large dogs lazing on auburn leather sofas. Radiant floor heat. Excellent company. Long conversations about cattle and business ventures and culinary boot camp and prospective projects.

A sky full of stars.

And an immense quiet.
