Spark

If you consider that every decision has two sides to its story, then the positive value of the last two months will surface eventually. As an art director for a company whose raison d'etre is to provide the smallest service in the shortest amount of time, I learned a lot. For instance, and not exclusively: I know more about production, working with the devil on my heels, dealing with an array of personalities (many of them tired and disenfranchised), managing a young and under-appreciated art department, and taking the high road. I also know much more about the length of my fuse and the consequences when I reach its end.

On the negative side, this has been pure captivity.
Friday, April 18th, all that ends.

Sheer Brick 3.0 will then commence, in addition to my most exciting news in eons: I will join the team at Spark. Our arrangement is for a part-time position. I couldn't be more delighted. In fact, if you had asked me a year ago where I'd like to work if I had the opportunity, Spark would have been my answer.

They're smart, savvy, madly talented, real, and generous. They're tops and I can't use the Valley as a scale for this because that would be inadequate. Most of all, they have- as my friend Nick put it- vision. Vision! Imagine that.

To quote their mission statement:
Spark was formed to fill a hole in the Eastern Pennsylvania ad scene – an agency relentlessly devoted to creativity. We have a religious devotion to the idea that without work that intrudes and enlightens, then all the strategy, all the marketing, all the media is an unfortunate waste of money. Spark is about synergy between agency and client, it's about dedication to craftsmanship and solving business problems with smart, creative thinking.

I'm so honored to have been invited to be part of Spark. I'm so glad to bring you this news. Thanks to all of you for putting up with me these past few months.

Congratulations! What an amazing opportunity! And I'd be willing to bet it'll seem even more surreal following such a... shall we say, "trying" endeavor.
