Ustedes deben bailar!

The Argentine/Uruguayan tango fusion band, Bajofondo, released the fiery Mar Dulce over the summer. This is the version of Pa' Bailar featuring Julieta Venegas. She has a voice like smoky, gritty velvet. I used to think I wanted to sound like Chryssie Hynde, but I've officially changed my mind for the moment.

The interesting thing about the entire album is that Bajofondo takes traditional forms and infuses them with contemporary sensibilities; it's a genre-bending but satisfying ride. Few can do this with such skill. Bajofondo aces it and the collective gives us a collection that dips in and out of tango, torch, rap, jazz. Note, too, that Elvis Costello guests on the album with "Fairly Right" and one of the principals of Bajofondo is Gustavo Santaolallo, the composer.
